PLAN-B NET ZERO presents new energy storage concept

Zug/Wiener Neustadt - PLAN-B NET ZERO has showcased its Battery Energy Storage System that functions on the basis of green hydrogen for the first time at the D-A-CH-Wasserstoffsymposium. In combination, the two technologies should offer additional parameters with regard to control and flexibility.

(CONNECT) The Zug-based greentech company PLAN-B NET ZERO and its subsidiary PLAN-B NET ZERO BESS GmbH presented their new energy storage concept at this year’s D-A-CH-Wasserstoffsymposium. The central platform and event for experts, companies and researchers based in Germany, Austria and Switzerland that are involved in the hydrogen sector was held at the Höhere Technische Bundeslehr- und Versuchsanstalt Wiener Neustadt. According to a company statement, the concept combines a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), green hydrogen and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in an integrated, flexible energy system that helps to stabilize power grids and increases the security of supply.

Tjark Connor Hennings-Huep, an expert in battery systems from PLAN-B NET ZERO, argued at the symposium that sophisticated grid planning approaches are no longer sufficient in Germany, Austria and Switzerland due to aspects including the volatile feed-in of energy from wind farms and photovoltaic installations, sluggish progress with regard to grid expansion and the increasing frequency of extreme weather events that are putting grid stability under pressure. Instead, “we need intelligent, decentralized systems that can respond independently to fluctuations”.

As the company emphasizes, it does not see combined battery-hydrogen solutions as competition to other systems, but rather as a complementary component in a more resilient energy ecosystem comprising regional energy centers. “Together, the two technologies form a bridge to take us towards a robust, fully renewable energy system and, in combination, offer additional parameters in terms of control and flexibility”, Hennings-Huep explains.

The battery storage and hydrogen are supplemented by AI-driven forecast and control algorithms to help dynamically balance production, storage and consumption. “Our aim”, according to the expert, “is to produce an energy system that stabilizes itself – digital, decentralized and decarbonized”. ce/mm
