Huber+Suhner opens new production site in Poland

Herisau/Pfäffikon/Pisary - Huber+Suhner is now manufacturing optical switches for data centers at its new production site in Pisary in Poland. Production capacity is planned to increase at least fivefold over the next two years.

(CONNECTHuber+Suhner is setting the course for business growth in optical circuit switches (OCS) in Poland. The company is based in Herisau in the Swiss canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden and Pfäffikon near Zurich. Now, it has opened a new production site in the Polish municipality of Pisary, according to a statement.

The new production facility manufactures Huber+Suhner's POLATIS OCS solutions for hyperscale data centers across an area of around 3,000 square meters. These switches “deliver transparent, software-defined dynamic optical connectivity within energy-efficient hyperscale data centers to meet the low loss and latency demands of high-performance AI workloads”, Jürgen Walter, Chief Operating Officer Communication segment, is quoted as saying.

Increasing demand for OCS solutions is a result of the rapid growth of hyperscale data center infrastructure around the world, driven by cloud computing and the increased use of artificial intelligence, the company writes. The new site is expected to benefit from the potential of the rapidly growing market for AI data center equipment and will complement the existing production facility in nearby Krzeszowice, which is reportedly being operated at full capacity.

The Pisary site reflects Huber+Suhner’s “mission for sustainable operations,” says Robert Smith, Managing Director POLATIS. The facilities include a photovoltaic installation with a capacity of 150 kilowatt peak, a mechanical ventilation with heat recovery, and a biological waste treatment plant. A new building management system has also been implemented “to support a low carbon footprint”. ce/mm
