ID Watch launches special edition for the 2291 festival

Onex - To mark the occasion of the 2291 festival, ID Watch has launched a special edition of its circular economy watch. The watch, which comes with lifetime membership of the 2291 club for buyers, is made entirely from recycled steel, while the strap is made from plant waste.

According to information from the manufacturer, the ID Watch is the first timepiece for which the steel used to manufacture it consists entirely of recycled material. The steel is obtained from waste in the canton of Jura and processed at a foundry located in Reconvilier in the canton of Bern. Concentrated solar energy is used to produce the molten mass. The watch straps are made of pomace, which is essentially pressed plant residues.

Nicolas Freudiger, one of the three founders of ID Watch, is proud of that fact that the components for the watch are all sourced from within a radius of no more than 200 kilometers. “The luxury industry must play a central role in the sustainable transformation”, he says.

ID Watch has now launched a special edition of its circular economy watch for which just five units will be available on the market. Anyone who buys one of these special editions will also receive lifetime membership in the 2291 festival club. The festival is keen to re-center social debate around long-term thinking. “Thinking in generations” and “Try long term” are the mantras by which festival founder and California-based Swiss entrepreneur Christian Häuselmann lives. The special edition of the ID Watch is priced at a mid-range four-digit amount in Swiss francs.

ID Watch SA is based in Onex in the canton of Geneva. The watch is manufactured at a workshop in Saignelégier in the canton of Jura. This year, the workshop is set to manufacture around 1,000 watches. ce/stk
