Mikron Tool unveils new micro drill for the aerospace industry

Agno - Mikron Tool is unveiling its new micro-drill for aerospace-relevant non-ferrous materials at the Farnborough International Airshow. The cutting geometry of the CrazyDrill Non-Ferrous is designed to support controlled chip formation and evacuation as well as stable drilling of ductile materials.

(CONNECTMikron Tool, a division of Mikron Group, a manufacturer of micro-machining solutions also for the aerospace industry, has announced that it will expand its CrazyDrill family with the CrazyDrill Non-Ferrous in September. This is a high-performance micro-drilling solution for aerospace-relevant non-ferrous materials such as aluminum copper alloys, lead-free brass and other ductile, deformable materials. The tool covers diameters from 0.2 to 6.35 millimeters and drilling depths of up to twelve times the drill diameter (12 x d).

Small-diameter drilling in these materials is demanding due to high ductility, long chip formation and built-up edge, challenges often amplified in aerospace production by tight tolerances, deep holes, delicate components, limited spindle speed, reduced machine rigidity or non-optimal coolant conditions. The cutting geometry of CrazyDrill Non-Ferrous is designed to support controlled chip formation, reliable evacuation and stable drilling across a broad range of non-ferrous aerospace materials, even under less-than-ideal machining conditions.

Mikron Tool specializes in the most demanding machining applications and produces high-precision cutting tools for complex aerospace components where traditional solutions fall short. The spectrum ranges from turbine blade cooling holes to intricate manifold blocks. “In aerospace manufacturing, precision is a requirement,” the company states. “When a single micron can make the difference, Mikron Tool delivers the Swiss made edge needed to perform beyond conventional limits.”

The company has its headquarters in Agno in the canton of Ticino. It also has a branch office with sales and manufacturing in Rottweil, Germany, as well as sales branches in the USA and China. Mikron Tool is one of the exhibitors in the SWISS Pavilion at the Farnborough International Airshow. The trade exhibition for the global aerospace, aviation and defence industries takes place every two years in southern England. In 2026, the airshow will be held from 20 to 24 July. ce/mm
