Axpo and GridStor collaborate on battery storage project

Baden/Portland - Axpo from the Swiss canton of Aargau and GridStor, a U.S.-based battery energy storage systems developer, have signed an energy storage agreement for the Hidden Lakes Reliability Project in Galveston County in Texas. The project involves a large-scale energy storage system and aims to contribute to more stable electricity rates.

(CONNECT) The Baden-based Swiss energy company Axpo and GridStor, which develops battery energy storage systems and is located in Oregon, have signed an energy storage agreement for the Hidden Lakes Reliability Project in Galveston County, Texas. According to a statement, the project near Houston features a battery energy storage system with a capacity of 220 megawatts (MW) and a storage capacity of 440 megawatt-hours (MWh). It began operations in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Through this partnership, Axpo aims to help ensure stable long-term electricity prices for residential and industrial customers in Houston. “At Axpo, our mission is to help customers achieve their desired energy risk profiles. Our platform is built to give our customers and industry partners direct access to our trading capabilities and resources. We look forward to deepening our cooperation with GridStor,” said Shimon Schaff, Origination Director at Axpo USA.

As a developer of large-scale energy storage systems, GridStor manages approximately 530 MW, or 1,300 MWh, of battery storage capacity that is either already in operation or in development. The company focuses on cost-effective, long-term solutions for utilities, data centers, and large industrial customers in regions with growing energy demand.
