Docteur Gab’s and WasteOlas recovering CO2 from the beer brewing process

Puidoux/Lancy - Brasserie Docteur Gab’s has teamed up with WasteOlas to launch a system for the recovery and recycling of CO2. With this system, CO2 produced during fermentation can be collected, purified and stored, before being re-used for beer production.

(CONNECTBrasserie Docteur Gab’s SA has launched a system that allows CO2 generated during the fermentation process to be stored, purified and re-used in the beer production process, as detailed in a statement.

With this project, the brewery is seeking to reduce its carbon footprint. The CO2 produced during fermentation will now be used as a resource instead of being written off as a waste product. According to the brewery, this project “aims to strengthen the brewery’s self-sufficiency while reducing its ecological footprint at the same time”.

To this end, the brewery has partnered with WasteOlas SA, a start-up based in Lancy in the Swiss canton of Geneva that specializes in the re-use of CO2. “Local CO2 utilization is a key pillar of the circular economy in the food industry”, as WasteOlas explains in a statement of its own.

Founded in 2001 and based in Puidoux in the canton of Vaud, Brasserie Docteur Gab’s produces and distributes beer in bottles. Since 2023, the company has also taken back empty bottles as part of a bottle deposit-refund scheme. Additionally, photovoltaic systems have been installed at the production site and the brewery makes use of electric vehicles. ce/gp
