TFBO students develop projects for Sri Lankan national parks

Thun/Colombo - Students from the TFBO College of Tourism in Thun have come up with proposals for the further development of four national parks during a seminar in Sri Lanka. The focus was on sustainably promoting tourism.

(CONNECT) Students of the TFBO College of Tourism in Thun in the Swiss canton of Bern have travelled to Sri Lanka for an overseas seminar. According to a press release, on this trip they helped to develop specific propositions aimed at boosting tourism at four national parks in the island nation. “The overseas seminar focused on practical proposals for four different national parks with an emphasis on sustainable tourism development”, as TFBO Director Stefan Otz comments in the press release.

One of the four groups was tasked with developing a tourism offering for the Wilpattu National Park, which offers guests a modular accommodation system in Deluxe and Superior categories. In 2026, this proposal is to be presented at the Holiday and Travel Show Bern and at FESPO, a Zurich-based trade that focuses on the world of travel.

A second group sought to promote Maduru Oya National Park via a travel blog to a Swiss audience as an exciting alternative option to other national parks in Sri Lanka.

A concept for the social media presence of Wasgamuwa National Park was devised by a third group. This included ideas for content to be used on various platforms.

Finally, the fourth group developed a concept aimed at managing visitor flows at the popular Minneriya National Park. In this context, the focus was on ensuring adequate protection of flora and fauna, promoting sustainable infrastructure and involving the local population in such efforts.

The students presented their ideas to fellow students, teachers, clients and invited guests. ce/ug
