GreenState to present AI device for domestic herb cultivation

Winterthur - GreenState is transferring its expertise in the area of vertical farming to small growing devices suitable for use in the kitchen or living room. To begin with, the GrowBorg, as the company’s compact system powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) is called, can grow basil. Other herbs will also be added in the future.

(CONNECTGreenState has launched GrowBorg.ai on the market to support domestic herb cultivation. In so doing, the Winterthur-based start-up has applied its experience in the area of vertical farms to a compact, AI-powered device suitable for use within the user’s own four walls.

As GreenState outlines, the device comes with full-spectrum light, water and GPS sensors, in addition to a small camera. It continuously monitors the plant and sends performance data to a central system. “It’s like a personal gardener who never sleeps”, as GreenState explains.

In amateur mode, the device follows tried and tested industrial practices as seen in professional vertical farms. In professional mode, users can develop their own growth strategies and compare themselves against others, including the company’s proprietary AI, to discover who is the best at growing basil.

Using an app, users are able to track plant growth and receive notifications concerning water and temperature readings, in addition to sharing photos and recipes. An integrated blog is on hand to offer gardening tips, while an AI chatbot answers questions about plants and the device.

“When it comes to the GrowBorg, it is very important to mention that we have built everything ourselves and that we have the intellectual property of the GrowBorg”, as CEO Arsenije Grgur explained in his CEO video report in March 2025. The devices are also assembled in Switzerland.

In May 2024, GreenState acquired its competitor Yasai and, as Grgur explains, its pilot project with the Migros grocery chain as well. As is the case with Yasai, GreenState has also been cooperating with Coop AG for some time, the CEO adds. According to him, financing has been secured for a new XL farm, which is expected to be completed and fully operational by mid-2026. He expects it to generate annual sales of 30 million Swiss francs.

GreenState is one of 12 Swiss exhibitors that form part of the SWISS Pavilion for GITEX Global 2025. The world’s largest technology, start-up and AI trade fair is taking place October 13-17 in Dubai. ce/mm
