Nestlé strengthens research capabilities in Singapore
Vevey VD/Singapore - Nestlé is moving to strengthen its local research activities in Singapore. With the help of the regional Economic Development Board, the aim is to involve start-ups and SMEs in the development of local food.
(CONNECT) The research and development (R&D) department based in Singapore of the global food company Nestlé, headquartered in Vevey in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland, is seeking to promote local capacities for the development of nutritious and sustainable food. As detailed in a press release covering these plans, Nestlé is to be supported in realizing its aims by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB).
The cooperation will primarily focus on supporting start-ups and SMEs to innovate in the area of alternative proteins, including hybrid plant/dairy products and plant-based products, as well as in the production of sustainable packaging. Moreover, there will be an emphasis on the digital transformation of the food industry as well.
“For over 40 years, our R&D Center in Singapore has played a key role in developing products and technologies for Southeast Asia and globally, for well-known Nestlé brands”, comments Guglielmo Bonora, Head of Nestlé R&D in Singapore, in the press release. He goes on to state the Nestlé’s ongoing partnership with the EDB “underscores our commitment” to ensuring that Singapore is recognized as a “global hub for innovation and technology”.
Melissa Guan, Acting Vice President and Head of Consumer at EDB, sees Nestlé as a pioneer in the implementation of innovations, digitalization and sustainability across the region: “Nestlé’s investment underscores Singapore’s continued attractiveness as a regional R&D hub for consumer companies to partner with our local ecosystem to co-create and co-develop new products and processes”. ce/ww
