BKW to commercialize two large-scale batteries from Acacia in France

Bern/Marseille - BKW will be responsible for commercializing and economically optimizing two large-scale batteries for the French project development firm Acacia. To this end, the two companies have agreed a ten-year contract. The total capacity of the batteries comes to 200 megawatts.

(CONNECT) The Bern-based energy provider BKW and project development firm Acacia, which is headquartered in the French city of Marseille, have agreed a contract with a term of 10 years, as detailed in a statement. This agreement stipulates that BKW will commercialize and economically optimize two large-scale batteries from Acacia. The contract also provides for access to the electricity markets and system services.

The batteries are located in the Hauts-de-France and Centre-Val de Loire regions of France. Construction work got underway in November and is scheduled for completion in 2027. The batteries offer a total capacity of 200 megawatts and can be charged or discharged within two hours, providing an aggregated electricity supply of 400 megawatt-hours overall.

BKW has set its sights on further expanding its activities in France. “We are delighted to partner with Acacia on this contract, which is unique in terms of structure, size and term”, as Loïc Bonifacie, Head of Origination Western Europe at BKW, comments in the statement. “This demonstrates the confidence that BKW enjoys as a long-term partner”, he concludes.

Kévin Le Tenoux, CEO of Acacia, highlights the fact that many energy storage projects get stuck at an early development phase. He explains: “The partnership with BKW is an example of the expertise that Acacia brings to the table in terms of realizing complex storage projects on time from the early development phase and construction all the way through to commissioning”. ce/ug
