Bcomp secures CHF 36 million to advance eco-friendly composite materials in mobility

Fribourg - Bcomp, a global leader in natural fiber composites, has successfully raised CHF 36 million in a Series C funding round led by EGS Beteiligungen AG.

Bcomp, a Fribourg-based leader in the development of natural fiber composites, has announced a CHF 36 million Series C funding round to expand its sustainable material solutions across the mobility, recreational, and mass transportation sectors. By leveraging flax-based technologies, Bcomp aims to significantly reduce carbon footprints in these industries while enhancing material performance.

This significant financial injection will bolster Bcomp’s production capabilities and facilitate its expansion into Asian and North American markets. The company, recognized among the Top 100 Global Cleantech Companies, is pioneering the development of sustainable materials for various sectors, including mobility and mass transportation.

Bcomp’s innovative technologies, powerRibs and ampliTex, utilize flax-based fibers to create high-performance, lightweight composites. These materials are designed to replace traditional carbon, glass, or plastic components in various applications, offering advantages such as better vibration damping and increased safety due to their non-shattering properties.

With this latest funding, Bcomp plans to extend its reach beyond automotive applications to industries like rail, buses, aviation, aerospace, and consumer goods. The company’s solutions are already in use by leading automotive manufacturers such as Volvo and Polestar, who are integrating Bcomp’s materials for both structural and visible parts in their new models.

The investment also reflects a strong endorsement of Bcomp’s strategic direction and its potential to contribute to global decarbonization efforts. In the company’s press release, David Kurmann, Investment Director of EGSB, praised Bcomp’s leadership in sustainable material innovation, highlighting its role in meeting the manufacturing sector’s carbon neutrality goals. Additionally, Claas Carsten Kohl, Partner at Airbus Ventures expressed excitement about Bcomp’s potential to transform the global mobility market through its cost-effective and eco-friendly solutions. ggba
