Energy Vault to supply 110 megawatts in battery storage systems in the USA
Lugano/Austin - Energy Vault has agreed two contracts with Jupiter Power, a developer and operator of energy storage solutions based in the US State of Texas. Energy Vault will provide two of its gravity-based energy storage systems including an energy management software platform.
Energy Vault, headquartered in Lugano in the canton of Ticino and with a subsidiary in Westlake Village, California, has reached two agreements with Jupiter Power. The Texas-based developer of battery energy storage systems, which also owns and operates projects of this kind, has ordered two of Energy Vault’s gravity-based energy storage systems.
One such battery energy storage system is intended to supply 100 megawatts of energy and ancillary services to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT). The second system of 10 megawatts is to be installed in Carpinteria in southern California. Both projects are scheduled for completion in 2023, further details of which can be found in a press release.
The systems will use the proprietary software platform Energy Vault Solutions (EVS). The development of this energy management solution was announced by the Ticino-based firm only nine months ago. “We are seeing strong demand for our EVS-enabled energy storage solutions”, comments Marco Terruzzin, Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) at Energy Vault, in the press release. The reason for this, according to Terruzzin, is “the unique ability” of this platform to “integrate and deliver both short and long duration (EVx) energy storage technologies”.
Jupiter currently has 654 megawatt hours of energy storage projects, with additional capacity of 11 gigawatts under development in connection with projects in several markets ranging from California to Maine. The company is supporting efforts to increase the prevalence of renewable solar and wind energy, while also improving the resilience and reliability of the utility grids, including with the technology and solutions developed by Energy Vault.
